Abstract

256,098. Leach, R. W. Nov. 14, 1925. Channels and reservoirs in valves; force-feed lubricating.-The body c of a plug cock is provided with a lubricant chamber d adjacent one or each end of the plug b, the chamber being fitted with a piston f which, under the action of spring or fluid pressure or both, forces lubricant into grooves in the plug or body or bath. As shown in Fig. 1, the piston slides on the upper end of the plug and is subjected to the pressure of a spring g and also to fluid pressure which has access thereto from the passage i in the plug through a hole h. The chamber d is supplied through a valved passage j, and the stem q of the piston protrudes through a gland in a cover e closing the chamber to indicate the amount of lubricant in the chamber. The stem q contains lubricant which may be forced to the gland bv a plug r. Longitudinal grooves a on the plug extending from the chamber d to near the other end of the plug and intersecting annular grooves a on the plug alternate with shorter longitudinal grooves a<1>, Fig. 6, in the body supplied from the annular grooves a by short longitudinal grooves a<2> in the plug. A passage in leading from the lower annular grooves communicating with a drain passage n closed by a plug o. In the modification shown in Fig. 4, the piston slides in a cavity in the upper end of the plug, being pressed upwards by the, fluid pressure in the plug.
