Abstract

The indophenols obtainable by joint oxidation of a 1-acylamino-2 : 4-diaminobenzene and p-aminophenol or a halogen substitution product thereof, or the corresponding leuco compounds are sulphurized to give violet sulphur dyestuffs for vegetable fibres. According to examples, the indophenols of the following formula <FORM:0417957/IV/1> in which the acyl group may be acetyl or benzoyl and in which the NH2 group may be dimethylated or diethylated, obtained by joint oxidation of the corresponding 1-acylamino-2 : 4-diaminobenzene with p-amino- or p-nitrosophenol, are sulphurized in the usual manner. The leucoindophenols of the following formula <FORM:0417957/IV/2> in which the acyl group is acetyl or propionyl, and which may be chlorinated in the other nucleus at X, obtained by joint oxidation of the corresponding 1-acylamino-2 : 4-diaminobenzene with 2 : 4-dichloro-4-aminophenol and subsequent reduction, are also sulphurized. 2 - Amino- -4 - dimethyl and diethylamino - acetanilide are obtained by nitrating the 4 - dialkaminoacetanilide and reducing the product.
