Abstract
412,987. Metallic-vapour apparatus. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., Magnet House, Kingsway, London, and GALLIZIA, E., c/o General Electric Co., Ltd., Witton, Birming- ham. Jan. 6, 1933, No. 514. [Class 39 (i).] In a vapour-arc converter comprising a number of anodes mounted on the top plate of the casing, the anode seals are arranged in staggered formation whereas the anodes are so arranged that they are symmetrical with respect to the cathode, and are unstaggered or are staggered to a less extent. Seals 5 are arranged on two concentric circles, and adjacent rectangular anodes 10 are connected to their anode stems 4 at their radially inner and outer edges respectively. Each anode is housed within a shield 7 which is of rectangular cross-section and is provided with plates 9 to deflect the arc outwardly over the anode face. The plates form a louver arrangement and are tangential to circles concentric with the converter axis. In a modification, the anodes which are connected to their stems at their outer edges are not provided with deflecting means, or are provided with means which do not deflect to such a great extent. Each anode may be provided at a part below its connection with the stem with a slot 10, and also with a radiator 6. In a further modification, all the deflecting means are the same and the shapes of the anodes in the two sets are different.
