411,382. Boot &c. stiffeners. JOHNSON, J. F., 14, Tylney Road, Norfolk Park, and SHREEVES, J., 15, Brincliffe Gardens, both in Sheffield. Dec. 1, 1933, No. 33738. [Class 17 (ii).] A shank stiffener comprises a substantially flat plate a, of rigid or slightly resilient material such as metal or bone, enlarged at the heel b, the narrower body portion lying beneath the cuboid d and the fourth and fifth metatarsals e, f, and being dished slightly at a<1> to contact with the cuboid and fourth metatarsal. The support extends transversely beneath the metatarsal heads, being cut away at g to clear the phalanges j. The support may be built into the shoe between the upper and lower soles, one of which is recessed, or may be secured on top of the upper sole by recessing the latter or providing a covering.
