Abstract
409,692. Pipe joints. TUTT, M. W., Branscombe, Queen's Court, Wembley, Middlesex. Nov. 2, 1932, Nos. 30904 and 36687. [Class 99 (i).] A conical sealing ring k of thin sheet metal is located in a recess in a fitting b and surrounds the pipe a, the angles which the ring and the conical surface m make with the pipe surface being different and both less than 45‹. The gland nut c fits closely on the pipe and has a surface n inclined to the pipe at an angle greater than 45‹ and engaging an internal flange l of the ring k. The ends of the ring are formed as knife edges by machining inner cylindrical surfaces o, p. The pipe may be scored with shallow annular grooves. In a modification, the surface in is curved and the ring k is in the shape of two equal hollow cones placed base to base.
