Abstract

407,165. Drying sized material. HOWARD & BULLOUGH, Ltd., and IRVING, J., Globe Works, Accrington. Jan. 5, 1933, No. 335. [Class 34 (i).] The air ducts on both sides of the exhaust fan of an air-drying sizing machine are both provided with valves connected to the starting and stopping means of the machine, whereby the ducts are automatically and simultaneously controlled to prevent overheating of the sized yarn when it is brought to a standstill. In the form shown, the yarn 4 passes between steamheated gilled pipes 2, and about rotating swifts 3, and air may enter the drying chamber at the apertures provided for the yarn, being drawn through by the fan 5. A valve plate 7 is provided in the inlet duct 6 of the fan, the valve being opened and closed on rotating the shaft 9, which is connected through suitable linkwork provided with lost-motion connections to the stop-rod which operates the strap-fork or other striking gear of the machine. A valve plate, operated in similar manner from the stop-rod, is provided in the outlet duct from the fan 5.
