N.), Gorebrook Ironworks, Longsight, Manchester, and OSBORNE, F., Donna-Nook, Bramhall Lane, Stockport. Nov. 5, 1932, No. 31254. [Class 120 (ii).] In precision cross-winding machines for yarn, thread and the like, wherein the package carriers are mounted on positively driven spindles and the traverse cam mechanism is enclosed in an angularly movable drum or cam box forming part of each winding head, a bearing e<1> for the outer end of the spindle a is carried an arm e so mounted on the turned end c<1> of the doffer slide bar c that it may be withdrawn horizontally against the effect of a spring d<2> and turned into the vertical position shown in dotted lines in Fig. 3 to free the spindle, a bayonet or like joint, comprising a slot d<1> in a sleeve d which carries the arm co-operating with the doffer slide bar, serving to lock the arm in the operative position. The arm moves with the doffer slide which carries the doffing-arm b and is operated by a handle and pawls f<1> engaging teeth on the slide or by other means.
