Abstract
533,483. Winding yarns. ABBOTT MACHINE CO. Nov. 10, 1939, Nos. 29836 and 29837. Convention dates, Nov. 16, 1938 and Nov. 6, 1939. [Class 120 (ii)] In an automatic yam-winding machine having mechanism for rotating the normally winding package in an unwinding direction for finding the end of a broken or exhausted yam on the surface of the package, which end is then carried to a knotter for tying it to the end of the supply or reserve yam, a brush element is driven in the opposite direction to that of an unwinding roll to brush up the end of the yarn on the package, and the unwinding'roll and the brush element are relatively positioned so as to act on the surface of the package on approximately a common line of action ; means is also provided for receiving the brushed up end of the yarn. As shown, the unwinding roll is in two parts 111a, 111b spaced apart on the shaft 111c with the brushing element 18 loosely mounted on the shaft between them. A worm 27 on a shaft 26 drives the shaft 1 lie and a second worm on the shaft drives a shaft 31b geared to the brushing element to rotate the latter in a direction opposite to that of the unwinding roll. The brushing element may be formed by a surface of plush on a roller 16 or by flaps of leather secured tangentially to the roller. The unwound and brushed-up end is taken to the knotter by a suction tube 108 the mouth of which is located adjacent the common line of action of the brushing element and the unwinding roll. Specifications 459,357, 459,413, 459,414, 459,429, 459,430, 489,435 and U.S.A. Reissue Specification 18,310 are referred to.
