Abstract

400,386. Tubular joints. PERESS, J. S., Devonshire Villa, High Road, Byfleet, Surrey. Aug. 16, 1932, No. 22984. [Class 99 (i).] Joints for submersible apparatus, particularly deepdiving armour such as that described in Specifications 166,596 and 204,481, [both in Class 99 (i), Pipes and tubes, Joints &c. for], comprises an annular piston with an annular packing. Fig. 1 shows a spherical joint, suitable for a knee-joint, consisting of a double-walled female part a and a single-walled male part b, both partspherical. The part a is made with a removable section a<6> to enable the part b to be fitted, and the part b is fitted with an hydraulic packing-ring c secured by a ring d and confining a liquid filling e. In a modification, the part a consists of an outer and an inner portion, each in one piece, and the part b has a packing-supporting annular in two parts, the ring d being also divided. The parts a have suitable flanges for attaching them to various parts of a diving-apparatus. If the joint parts need only have a relative rotational movement, the parts a, b may be cylindrical.
