Abstract
399,653. Average-speed indicators. BAAGOE, A. J., 3, Rue Mathis, Paris. Oct. 7, 1932, No. 28008. [Class 106 (iii).] In an average-speed indicator in which a hand moving according to a logarithmic function of the time moves over a dial rotating according to a logarithmic function of the distance, the apparatus is zeroized by shifting a shaft axially to disconnect the elements of the apparatus and then rotating it to return the parts to their zero position. The dial driving mechanism comprises a worm shaft 30 connected to the transmission of the vehicle and meshing with a worm wheel 16, connected to a cam disc 1 engaging with a pin 5 connected to a sector 6 driving a spur wheel 7 mounted on the sleeve carrying the dial 8. The hand 9 is driven by similar mechanism operated by clockwork 15. Movement of the shaft 17 in the direction of the arrow C disengages the cam discs 1, 2 from their pins 5, 10, the shaft 30 from its worm wheel 16 and the clutch member 20 from the member 21 in the clockwork driving connection. Rotation of the shaft 17 causes its attached arms 37 to press on the heart-shaped cams 39 and zeroize the various parts. The clutch 20 may be disconnected without zeroizing whenever the vehicle is stationary, in order to obtain the average speed for the running item only.
