614,326. Reverse-gear. BOWSER, Inc. Nov. 6, 1945, No. 29532. Convention date, Nov. 6, 1944. [Class 80 (ii)] [Also in Group XXVI] The train of gears connecting a rotary liquid meter (see Group XXVI) to its indicating mechanism includes means whereby an idler gear can be interposed to allow the direction of flow through the meter to be reversed. The drive is transmitted between gears 129 and 151, Fig. 4, either through a single idler gear 131 or through two idler gears 143, 145, according to the position of a manually-adjustablepivot bracket 133 which carries the idler gears. A screw 149 passing through a slot 147 holds the bracket in the required position. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 also comprises an alternative mechanism in which automatic reversal is provided by the use of two free-wheel clutches 263, 281, Fig. 8 (Cancelled), having peripheral gear teeth 273, 277 respectively. The clutches are of the wedge-and-roller type and are of opposite hands. For one direction of rotation of the meter, clutch 281 transmits the drive from a hub 259 directly to a gear 285; on reversal, the drive takes place through clutch 263 and an idler gear 283. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
