607,989. Change-speed gear. AKTIEBOLAGET LJUNGMANS VERKSTADER. Feb. 13, 1946, No. 4514. Convention date, Feb. 15, 1945. [Class 80 (ii)] In a change-speed gear, for use in mechanism determining the cost of a fluid retailed, a step gear 13 having a number of gear rims, the difference in the numbers of teeth of adjacent rims being constant, drives one wheel 28 of a differential, another wheel 9 of the latter being driven from the fluid meter at a pre-determined ratio to the step-gear, the gearing 8, 10, 11 being so arranged that the two driven wheels 9, 28 of the differential rotate in opposite directions but at the same speed when the smallest rim of the step gear is engaged. The planet wheels 29, 30 of the differential are connected to a yoke 33 which drives a counting mechanism 37 through the gears 34, 35 and friction device 36. Alterations in the cost per unit measure are made by moving the gear 23 axially, by means of the screw 19 and key 27, to mesh with a corresponding gear rim of the step gear 13 and so increase or decrease the relative rotation of the gears 28 and 9. In a modification a face step gear or crown gear is used in conjunction with two differentials, the planet cages of which are geared through a epicyclic train to the counting mechanism, the two differentials being arranged one to record single units of price and the other tens of units of price.
