[Class 100 (ii).] A printing-plate assembly for use in a flatbed book-printing press comprises, a bed 4, Fig. 1, mounted on the reciprocating table 3 of the press and provided with longitudinal guideways to receive rows of strip-like clamps 2 interposed between transverse rows of printing plates 1, means being provided to transmit pressure longitudinally of the bed through the plates and clamps to lock the plates on the bed. The bed 4 may consist of a number of separate bars spaced apart to form the guideways or may be a single block with guide grooves formed therein. The clamps 2 are of inverted U-section as shown in Fig. 6 having depending portions 5 engaging the guideways and may be spaced apart by distance pieces 11, Fig. 1, lying on the bed, or by distance slugs arranged in the guideways. Distance pieces 10 may be arranged between the plates in each row. The first row of clamps 2 are spaced from a fixed abutment bar 13 on the table 3 by distance slugs 14 and the last row of clamps is spaced from an adjustable pressure bar 16 by distance pieces 15. The pressure bar 16 is formed in three sections transversely of the bed and each section is guided on bars 20 fixed to the table 3 and operated from the front end of the table by a pair of rods 17 threaded through the section of the bar 16 and having squared ends 21 to receive a wrench.
