Abstract

398,548. Rotary kilns. RONNE, E., 33, Vestergade, Copenhagen. March 18, 1932, No. 8130. [Class 51 (ii).] Raw materials for cement &c. are treated prior to burning in a rotary kiln 1 in a number of planetary drying chambers 2 arranged around the feed end of the kiln, connected so as to rotate with the kiln and acting as ducts for the gases therefrom, means being provided for feeding the raw materials to the drying chambers 2, which are so arranged as to cause the materials to pass therethrough to a conduit 11 leading to an apparatus wherein the materials are subjected to a dressing before burning. The end of the assembly comprising the kiln 1 and planetary tubes 2 is closed by an annular plate 15 and a number of semicircular plates 16. The central opening in the annular plate 15 is closed by means of a stationary disc 17 through which a tube 5 for feeding the material to be burned in the kiln projects. The gases leaving the kiln and the solid material leaving a fixed spout 6 pass on their way to the planetary tubes 2 through a gap between the end of the kiln 1 and the plate 15, the planetary tubes being provided with openings 18, the adjacent edges of which in neighbouring tubes are joined together, to serve as inlets for the material. The solid material and gases leaving the planetary tubes 2 pass into an annular casing 7, which is stationary, and is provided with an outlet 12 for the gases as well as the outlet 11 for the materials. Spouts or deflectors 10 projecting from the planetary chambers 2 through an annular opening 19 in the casing 7 assist in conveying the materials therethrough. An annular plate 20 is fixed to the ends of the planetary chambers 2 and is provided with holes corresponding thereto, through which the gases and materials pass into the chamber 7. Heat-exchanging bodies 13 of fire-resisting material projecting radially into the kiln serve to reduce the temperature of the gases entering the chambers 2, the kiln being also widened at 14 for the same purpose.
