Abstract

397,057. Applying sterilized closures to bottles. SEITZ-WERKE GES., Bad Kreuznach, Rhineland, Germany. March 21, 1933, Nos. 8518 and 8519. Convention dates, May 17, 1932, and Jan. 31, 1933. Addition to 345,001. [Class 125 (ii).] According to the parent Specification, sterilized closures are applied to bottles in a germ-free atmosphere. The present Specification discloses a method of treating closures with sterilizing vapour while they are in the hopper and further with spraying the corks with liquid disinfectant while they are passing from the hopper to the closuring head. The usual crown-cork hopper, sorter, and shoot shown in the Figure is provided with a lateral inlet and outlet for germicide gas and sterilized air and is closed by a small cover 10. The sorting drum 3 and the shoot are provided with transparent strips of material such as that sold under the Registered Trade Mark " Cellon." Nozzles 6 are fitted in the shoot for spraying the corks. The method is shown and described as applied to sacks of corks in conjunction with a crown-cork distributer for a rotary corking- machine: Formaldehyde vapours are mentioned as a suitable sterilizing medium.
