Abstract

396,245. Vacuum-jar closures. TOWNSEND, H. E., 1342, Bergen Street, Brooklyn, New York, U.S.A. Oct. 24, 1932, No. 29710. [Class 125 (iii).] In a closure for jars, bottles, &c. of the type in which a cap is held seated partly or wholly by atmospheric pressure, the jar &c. has an annular shoulder near the lower end of a cylindrical mouth portion, an elastic, narrow gasket being positioned on this shoulder, and the cap is provided with a skirt adapted to engage the gasket and compress it on the annular shoulder, one of two elements-the cap and the jar &c.-is provided with a plurality of projections for engaging the other element, which other element has no corresponding projection or indentation. As shown in Fig. 8, projections 22 which are six in number, on the jar 2 engage the relatively deep crown 14 of the cap 4, the skirt of which is spaced away from the sloping part 12 of the jar neck to permit insertion of a capremoving tool. Fig. 12 shows a cap having indentations 29 which engage the mouth of the jar.
