Abstract
395,757. Chairs. BIRD, R. W., 71, The Avenue, Brondesbury Park, London. Jan. 23, 1932, No. 2128. [Class 52 (ii).] In a chair with a movable seat and back-rest connected together, the seat frame n is suspended from the arm rests by springs l, Fig. 1, and is connected to the pivoted back-rest frame h by springs m, locking devices in the form of clips o, Fig. 4, being provided on the rear legs with which the seat frame n engages when the seat is unoccupied and is in its retracted position. When the chair is occupied, the weight of the occupant disengages the seat frame from the clips o, and the seat is free to move forward, carrying the lower end of the back with it. The front part of the seat frame n, Fig. 3, is made narrow to clear the extended parts d, Fig. 1, of the front legs. To prevent undue strain on the springs l, a rod p on which is threaded a tube to serve as a roller, is fixed between the front legs. Additional springs may be provided to return the seat to its normal position when vacated.
