Abstract
391,672. Sound-directing appliances. PINTSCH AKT.-GES., J., 71, Andreasstrasse, Berlin. Sept. 16, 1932, No. 25811. Convention date, Oct. 27, 1931. [Classes 13 and 118 (ii).] In order that a directional sound field may be generated or received the opening of a mouthpiece, horn or similar emitter or receiver is formed so that each of its' axes is a whole multiple of the half length of the sound wave to be emitted or received. Fig. 1 shows the opening of a horn &c. in which the major axis a-x is equal to three half-wave, lengths the minor axis b-z being stated to be two half-wave lengths. It is stated that propagation of sound waves from imaginary sound generators at 1, 2, 3 would reinforce one another and contract the sound field into one horizontal plane. Figs. 2 and 2a show a generator having four horns each propagating sound waves 5 the overlapping of which give an intensified effect in the horizontal plane and the sound field being, indicated by the full line 6.
