Abstract
391,589. Furnace grates. AMERICAN ENGINEERING CO., Aramingo Avenue, Philadelphia, U.S.A. March 23, 1932, No. 8642. Convention date, July 28, 1931. [Class 51 (i).] In a mechanical stoker of the kind described in Specification 308, 345, [Class 51 (i), Furnaces and kilns, Combustion apparatus of], the plate 2, Fig. 1, at the lower ends of the retorts is provided with a removable tip protected by non- metallic refractory blocks 9. The extension grate 3 which is adapted to be reciprocated comprises a number of sections each consisting as shown in Fig. 3, of side plates 12 connected by transverse bars 13 on which are mounted non-metallic refractory blocks 18, 19, Figs 4 and 5, having channelled surfaces for the passage of air. The lower row of blocks 19 are recessed at 26 to engage with the bar 27. When in position the blocks overlap and are secured by a top plate 28. The vertical grate, forming one wall of the ashpit, is formed of bars 33 which are recessed to receive refractory blocks 34.
