Abstract
390,382. Cold and heat retaining vessels ; nonconducting coverings for heat. HIDDE, (nÚe STIRNEMANN), E., 68, Pferdemarkt, Hamburg, Germany. July 20, 1932, No. 20545. Convention date, June 18. [Classes 29 and 64 (ii).] Food, e.g. fruit, and other perishable goods are preserved by bringing to a temperature favourable for preservation, e.g. 1 C., and introducing into an airtight and moisture-proof package in which heat-insulating material is provided, this material being brought to the same temperature as the goods before introducing them into the package. A package employed consists of a chest a with a lining of insulating sheet material in the form of a strip c, the ends of which overlap, which is pressed firmly against a bottom sheet b of the material and a top sheet by the lid of the chest. This material consists of a sheet of cardboard covered on both faces with ground peat mould attached by shellac or other water-insoluble binding material. A layer of cellulose wadding or other soft material i is interposed between the goods and the insulating lining b, c. The slow rise in temperature within the package produces a gradual ripening of fruit, which is packed therein shortly before it is ripe.
