527,607. Preserving food. TANIKAWA, R. April 17, 1939, No. 11598. [Class 49] In the preservation of foodstuffs, such as fish, bird and animal meats, fruits or vegetables, by immersion in a liquid in a hermetically sealed vessel wherein a high degree of vacuum is produced and subsequently destroyed by the readmission of air, the foodstuff being refrigerated or kept cold in this condition, the quantity of liquid used is limited so that a substantial proportion, e.g. about one-fifth, of the total capacity is left unoccupied by the liquid and a press cover is disposed within the vessel above the foodstuff to keep it fully immersed during the exhausting operation.
