Abstract
389,861. Hair-curling appliances. SHELTON, W. G., 1709, Locust Street, St. Louis, Missouri, U.S.A. Sept. 25, 1931, No. 26819. Convention date, Jan. 5. [Class 131.] A saddle-shaped electric heater 1, 2, adapted to be applied over a tress of hair wound on a curler 11, is provided with a hairgripping element 4 comprising a pair of converging jaws 5 extending partially across the open side of the heater, and an intermediate spring portion 4a for contracting the jaws. Manipulating handles 7 are secured by rivets 8 to bosses 6 formed on each side of the gripping element 4, the handles being provided adjacent the rivets with projections 9 which bear against the element 4. The gripping element 4 is secured to a longitudinal projection 3 formed on the wall 2 of the heater by screws 13 which also pass through and secure a block 12 of insulating material. The block 12 is provided with terminal prongs 15 which are connected to the electrical resistance of the heater and are adapted to fit into the sockets of a terminal plug 16 connected to a source of current. The tress of hair S is shown as gripped between the jaws 17, 18 of a known form of protector clamp.
