Abstract
388,945. Piston-rings. STEVENS, A. H., 5, Quality Court, Chancery Lane, London.-(American Trust Co., Davenport, Iowa, U.S.A.) April 8, 1932, No. 10085. [Class 122 (i).] A ring 5 having inclined side-faces 12, 13 is mounted in a groove 9 with axial clearance whereby the working fluid has access to the back of the ring to assist in expanding it. The upper surface of the ring has a relatively small contact area with the side of the groove, to afford a better seal on the suction stroke. The ring or groove may be cut away as at 14 or 27 respectively. The lower face of the groove may also be recessed and may be parallel with or inclined relatively to the upper face.
