Abstract

223,333. Beardmore & Co., Ltd., W., and Love, R. July 28, 1923. Piston packing.-In order to exclude pressure fluid from the back of the piston-packing ring B of an internal-combustion engine or air compressor &c., an inwardly-spring- ing split ring C embracing the bottom of the packing-ring groove, is placed at the pressure side of the ring B. The ring C is pressed' in. wardly and axially by the pressure fluid. To assist this action, the edges of the ring C and of the packing-ring groove may be bevelled or rounded, as shown. In a doubleacting engine rings B, C are placed at both ends of the piston.
