Abstract

271,086. Lemasson, R. P. F. May 11, 1926, [Convention date]. Valves, arrangement of.-A rotary sleeve valve 1 for pumps &c. is also given a slight axial reciprocation, to ensure adequate lubrication and smooth wear, by the action of the cylinder pressure at opposite sides of a piston enlargement 17 formed on the sleeve. The piston 17 works in an annular chamber, to the opposite ends 18, 19 of which the cylinder gases are admitted alternately, for example through passages 20, 21 which communicate during the expansion or compression strokes with the gap 22, Fig. 4, in the packing-ring 11 on the cylinder head. Other packing-rings 10, 12 are provided on the cylinder head, and also a ring 13 on the sleeve or cylinder. The piston 17 may also have a packing-ring or a series of grooves 24. The valve is rotated by a gear 6 having slotted engagement at 8 with the valve.
