Abstract
388,500. Striking-plates for latches. PRESSED STEEL CO. OF GREAT BRITAIN, Ltd., Cowley, Oxford, and FERNBERG, E. B., 11, The Drive, Edgware, Middlesex. Nov. 20, 1931, No. 32270. [Class 44.] A spring-pressed safety catch for a door latch is mounted on the striking-plate and arranged so that when it is depressed it presents a surface continuous and flush with the main catch. The safety catch 6 is mounted in a recess 5 in the main catch 2 and is retained by lateral flanges 7 against the outward pressure of a leaf or spiral spring. The spiral spring 30 may seat in a socket 24, Fig. 7, or in a recess in the catch when the latter is made of sheet metal. The catch may be secured on the main catch by a pivot pin. The main catch 46, Fig. 12, may be formed with flanges 47 which are riveted to flanges 45 on a mounting plate 43 and the safety catch formed with end flanges which engage under a flange 45 on the plate 43 and a shoulder 48 on the main catch. Alternatively, the safety catch may engage on three sides with the flanges 45 on the plate 43. Specifications 380,951, [Group X], and 388,106 are referred to.
