Abstract
When spinning viscose artificial silk &c. increased speeds of spinning are permitted by the use of viscoses containing a normal percentage of cellulose, but which have been prepared with less than 35 per cent carbon disulphide relative to the alpha cellulose content of the alkali cellulose. Speeds of 90-150 metres per min. may be employed, and it is preferred to work at the speed which gives an entire absence of broken filaments. Spinning baths containing magnesium sulphate may be employed, for example, a bath containing 10-14 per cent sulphuric acid, 12-15 per cent sodium sulphate and 15 per cent magnesium sulphate.
