Abstract

Cellulose xanthates, and processes for making filaments and films therefrom.-A sulphonated fatty oil or a derivative thereof such as turkey red oil is added to viscose to be used for the manufacture of threads, bands &c. The proportion to be added, for example, 0,7 per cent, is insufficient to cause an appreciable modification in the appearance and other properties of the finished products. The addition enables glass-clear viscose to be obtained even after a single filtration, permits of the use of finer spinning orifices, and effects an increase in the tenacity of the viscose. In an example, the viscose is spun into a sulphuric acid bath containing sodium and magnesium sulphates.
