Abstract
384,114. Preserving dough &c. WILLOUGHBY, L. B., 832, South 41st Street, and BALLARD & BALLARD CO., both in Louisville, Kentucky, U.S.A. Jan. 16, 1932, No. 1360. Convention date, Jan. 16, 1931. [Class 49.] Expansible foodstuff, e.g. leavened dough, formed as rolls &c. 8 is packed in paraffined &c. paper 10, 11, which may be liquid coated, with square-shaped distance pieces 9, 9a and inserted in a cardboard &c. tube 12 closed by a sealing cap 12b containing a vent hole 13. The tube is turned upside down and the contents allowed to expand to expel air, e.g. by reason of the leavening action, aided, if necessary, by heat, in the direction of gravity, the expanded contents thus sealing the vent hole against air ingress. The tube may be made of telescopic members and may contain only a single expansible dough formation. Shortened dough may be packaged in this way providing it has a suitable expansion characteristic, e.g. from the use of baking powder. In a modified method the air is withdrawn from the container and the contents then allowed to expand to seal it against air ingress.
