Abstract

381,282. Vehicle opening tops. PYTCHLEY AUTOCAR CO., Ltd. and MOBBS, R. 0., 201, Great Portland Street, London. Aug. 13, 1931, No. 22917. [Class 108 (i).] The sliding panels of vehicle opening roofs are adapted to be held securely in any desired position by means of a pair of plates or fingers at each side of the panel adapted to grip a fixed rail on its opposite faces. As shown, the fingers 40, 42 pivoted at 48 are mounted on a block 34 carried by a transverse tubular member 22 in such a way that a slight rotary movement of the tube 22 causes the fingers 40, 42 to open and close to release and grip respectively the flange 52 of the panel guides. Rotary movement is given to the tube 22 by means of a screwed stud 26, the end of which is caused to bear on a plate 24 passing through a slot in the tube 22 and bearing against a spring 30 at its other end. The end of the plate 24 may be hooked to engage with a projection 29 on the fixed cross rail to keep the panel closed. In order to ensure that each pair of fingers will grip its related bar 52 the tube 22 may be provided with an axial slot so as to permit a slight further rotation of one end after the other has been stopped by the gripping of the fingers. The block 34 in this case is carried by bars 60 disposed in the said slots, the bars being adjustable to vary the distance between the pairs of fingers on opposite sides.
