Abstract

355,335. Road vehicle opening tops. STRUBEN, A. M. A., Redstone Wood, Redhill, Surrev. May 22, 1930, Nos. 15771 and 33273. [Class 108 (i).] In road vehicles of the saloon type in which the top cover and a portion of the back cover is adapted to be wholly or partially removed the movable cover comprises a number of rigid panels hinged together alternately at top and bottom and the rear panel being hinged to the vehicle body so that the panels will fold upon one another and the hinges and joints being constructed to prevent the access of rain water to the interior of the vehicle. The panels 4 which may be frames covered by fabric, metal, &c. are hinged alternately at top and bottom 5, 5<1> and are provided with members 7, 8 adapted to conduct rain water to the side guides 10. The side edges 15 of the panels are guided by guides 16, 17, the latter guides 17 being engaged by rollers 18 on the rear panel. The panels are, when desired, locked by bars 11 against the guides 16, the bars 11 having inclined surfaces co-operating with wedges or cams in the guides so that longitudinal movement of the bars causes them to rise and fall. These bars are operated by a lever 31 through lost-motion devices 35 and cables 36, while the panels are moved in either direction by means of a drum 20 operating cables 19, 19a arranged as shown in Fig. 8. One or more of the panels may be provided with ventilators or windows.
