Abstract
380,532. Two-stroke engines; pumps. PETERS, J. A., 30, Caldecote Street, Newport Pagnell, Buckinghamshire. July 1, 1931, No. 18964. [Class 7 (ii).] In a cross - connected engine with cylinders of two diameters a fan 1 is arranged in the induction pipe; this may be driven at crank shaft speed or through multiplying gear. As shown in Fig. 3, the fan may be coupled direct to an extension 7 of the crank shaft by the ball clutch 12 or it may be driven at a speed higher than that of the crank shaft through a friction clutch 15 and gearing 16 .. 19; the variation is effected by the hand-wheel 13. As shown in Fig. 1, the engine has two sets of cylinders ; air or mixture from the fan enters a pump chamber 4 through a passage 3 and is delivered through a transfer passage such as 6 to a power chamber of a cylinder in a plane other than that containing the pump chamber 4.
