Abstract

286,939. Udale, S. M. June 18, 1927. Spray carburettors.-To increase the charge at high engine speeds, a carburettor is provided with a small centrifugal air pump A driven from the engine and discharging through a conduit C into the mixing-chamber D which is provided with a main air inlet and with a rich mixture inlet conduit E, the conduit C being connected by a pipe H<1> with the float chamber G so that the fuel supply is increased as the air pump becomes effective at high speeds. The main air supply may be controlled by a suction-actuated valve F, and the rich mixture conduit E may be surrounded by an exhaust jacket F<1> or may be heated by conduction from the exhaust manifold. The pressure in the float chamber may be controlled by the provision of an interchangeable vent J. The pump may be driven by the belt which drives the radiator cooling-fan.
