Abstract
296,238. Pogue, C. N., and Andrews, A. J. Dec. 19, 1927. Surface and spray carburettors.-Hot air from a jacket 13, Fig. 2, surrounding the exhaust pipe 14 is admitted to the upper part of the main fuel tank D, Figs. 2 and 3, the fuel in which is agitated both by a stirrer 15 and by air forced through a check valve 29 in the bottom of the tank by an engine driven-compressor 26, the mixture produced being conveyed from the upper part of the tank through a conduit 10 to the intake of an ordinary spray carburettor C. The stirrer 15 is adapted to float on the fuel in the tank, and is mounted on a square or hexagonal shaft 17 driven by bevel gears 19, 20 and a shaft 21 which is connected by a flexible member 22 to a shaft mounted in the exhaust pipe and provided with propeller blades. To prevent damage from backfiring, the intake of the carburettor C is provided with a check valve and with an outwardly opening relief valve.
