Abstract

Spray carburettors; vaporizers, external.-The mixture on its way to the induction pipe or cornbustion chamber is heated and mixed by passing through one or more electrically heated screens and one or more gauze unheated screens, at least one unheated screen being located between the fuel nozzle and the heated screens. As shown, the screens 4 - - 8 are mounted in a detachable casing 12, the screens 5, 7 being heated and the screens 4, 6, 8 unheated. Additional air is admitted above the screens through a pipe 9 which may be fitted with a non-return valve 10. The additional air may be heated by arranging the inlet pipe 9 alongside the heater, and the walls of the heater may be hollow for the passage of exhaust gases. The heater may be used for supplying petrol vapour direct to the induction pipe or combustion chamber to facilitate starting, in which case it is fitted in a by-pass pipe opening into the induction system beyond the carburettor throttle.
