377,757. Dynamo-electric machines. BRITISH THOMSON - HOUSTON CO., Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London, and GRIFFITHS, L., Kennington, Biggin Hall Crescent, Coventry. May 4, 1931, No. 13145. [Class 35.] Magnetos; rotary - machines.-A lighting generator for a self-propelled vehicle, e.g. a motor cycle, comprises an armature 1 and commutator 5 constructed as a unit and mounted directly on the end of the engine crankshaft 3, a second unit comprising the field magnets 9, polepieces 8, and brush gear spigoted on the engine casing concentric with the armature unit, and a third unit consisting of a metal cover 13. The second unit is secured to the engine casing by screws 12 and the cover is secured by screws 14 to the outer of two brass or other non- magnetic annular plates 6, 7 carrying the field magnets. When the generator is required to provide current for ignition purposes as well as for lighting, a contact breaker may be secured to the cover so that it projects into the interior of a cup-shaped extension 4 of the hub 2 carrying the armature.
