Abstract
376,383. Washing gases. CORNER, G. H. C., McGINN, J., Norton Hall, The Green, Norton-on-Tees, and IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd., Millbank, London. April 14, 1931, No. 11075. [Class 55 (ii).] Flue gas is passed transversely through two or more successive sets of more or less interpenetrating curved vertical baffles down which water flows so that the gas moves sinuously from one concave surface to another without sharp change of direction, and dust and sulphur compounds are removed. Curvature of the transverse sets of baffles increases in the direction of gas flow, and the curvature of the final sets is reduced to avoid entrainment of water. The baffles may be so spaced that cleaner gas passes along the convex surface. The casing of the baffles is tapered toward the outlet, near which the sets of baffles are spaced more widely. Alkaline solutions, e.g. hot or cold lime water or milk of lime are sprayed on the baffles, which are of steel coated with vitreous enamel or with lead. Specification 358,103 is referred to.
