Abstract

376,275. Ventilating vehicles. BOSSU, P., Riel-les-Eaux, Cote d'Or, France. March 26, 1931, No. 9258. Convention date, March 26, 1930. [Class 137.] In a method of ventilating vehicles, the windows and doors are normally kept closed, and filtered fresh atmospheric air is blown in, and the air is thermally treated as a result of an isothermal compression followed by an adiabatic expansion, the compressor and expansion members, provided with a radiator between them, being mechanically coupled. Atmospheric air is drawn into a compressor 9, Fig. 1, by way of a filter 13 and thence passes through a radiator 14 into an expansion member 10. The cooled air is then distributed to the vehicle by pipes 17, 18 the outlets from which may be masked by a screen 20. The compressor and the expansion member are both connected to a shaft 11 driven by a motor 8. In a modification, Fig. 2, the outlet 25 from the compressor is controlled by a fourway valve 24 so that the compressed and heated air may be passed direct to the vehicle by way of a pipe 26, through a heater 28 to the vehicle by way of pipes 27, 15 or through the radiator 14 and expansion member 10 as before according to the temperature or the season. In a further modification the compressor is formed in two sections which may be coupled bv a clutch, so that when the air is being supplied to the vehicle either direct or through the heater 28, only the first section which produces a slight compression is used. The clutch may be controlled manually or by means of a thermostat within the vehicle.
