Abstract
Films or other articles, other than artificial threads, are made from cellulose esters or ethers by working up into the desired article a solution containing a cellulose derivative and, similarly to the process for the manufacture of artificial threads as described in the parent Specification, a condensation product of a polyvinyl alcohol with an aldehyde, as prepared according to Specification 337,806, [Class 2 (ii), Cellulose &c.]. The films &c. have an increased tensile strength, an excellent softness, a greater resistance to creasing, and reduced elongation when wetted p with water. In examples, cellulose acetate films are made from solutions in methylene chloride-alcohol and acetone-alcohol containing additions of a condensation product of polyvinyl alcohol and formaldehyde or acetaldehyde.ALSO:Films or other articles, other than artificial threads, are made from cellulose esters or ethers by working up into the desired article a solution containing a cellulose derivative and, similarly to the process for the manufacture of atrificial threads as described in the Parent Specification, a condensation product of a polyvinyl alcohol with an aldehyde, as prepared according to Specification 337,806, [Class 70, Indiarubber &c.]. The films &c. have an increased tensile strength, an excellent softness, a greater resistance to creasing, and reduced elongation when wetted with water. In examples, cellulose acetate films are made from solutions in methylene chloride-alcohol and acetone-alcohol containing additions of a condensation product of polyvinyl alcohol and formaldehyde or acetaldehyde.
