388,277. Artificial threads, straw, and horse-hair ; tubes, strips, &c. LONZA ELEKTRIZITATSWERKE UND CHEMISCHE FABRIKEN AKT.-GES., Gampel, Valais, Switzerland. June 25, 1932, No. 18015. Convention date, June 27, 1931. Addition to 384,793. [Class 2 (ii).] The process described in the parent Specification, for extruding a highly concentrated solution of a cellulose ester and/or ether through an annular orifice into an evaporative medium whilst simultaneously air or other gas and a thread-like inlay are introduced through a bore or bores within the annular orifice, is modified by using a solution containing sufficient softening agent to leave at least about 28 per cent in the finished bodies. Hollow strips, bands, &c. may be made by using an elongated annular discharge orifice. The products are particularly useful for working up on the usual braiding machines into braids or laces. In an example there is used a solution containing 39 per cent of cellulose acetate and 31 per cent of a softener comprising one-third each of triacetin, triphenylphosphate, and tricresylphosphate.
