Abstract
372,638. Respiratory appliances. DEUTSCHE GASGLUHLICHT - AUERGES., 16, Rotherstrasse, Berlin. Aug. 6, 1931, No. 22305. Convention date, Aug. 7, 1930. [Class 81 (ii).] In closed-circuit respirators employing oxygen-generating chemicals, the breathing - bag or equivalent air reservoir d is arranged on the exhalation side of the cartridge e or two bags g, f, equal in total capacity to the bag d, may be provided one on each side of the cartridge. The arrangement eliminates the resistance of the cartridge to exhalation, gives warning of the exhaustion of the cartridge by the suddenly increased temperature of the inhaled gases, and prevents damage due to the outflow of liquid lye from the bottom of the cartridge, the consumption of which, in the present construction, proceeds from bottom to top ; it also permits the provision of a cartridge h of liquid or compressed carbon dioxide, for initiating the evolution of oxygen, in the circuit between the exhaling valve b and the cartridge, particularly with the bag d. The cartridge may be unsealed by means of a striker or a valve i may be provided to control the outflow of gas. The breathing bag or bags may be arranged directly in the breathing circuit, in shunt circuits, or as a dead space or spaces in branches from the main circuit. Specification 337,170, [Class 81 (ii), Medical &c. appliances], is referred to.
