Abstract
367,796. Knitting. HEMPHILL CO., Central Falls, Rhode Island, U.S.A.-(Assignees of Lawson, R. H. ; Pawtucket, and Cloutier, A. N. ; Lonsdale, both in Rhode Island, U.S.A.) Nov. 19, 1930, No. 34816. Convention date, Nov. 30, 1929. [Class 74 (ii).] Striped effects in which two or more wrap threads 31 alternate in the same wale are produced on circular machines by circumferentially shifting a carrier disc 29 through eyes 30, 44 of which the wrap threads 31 pass. The carrier is mounted on a stub shaft 34 on which is a pin 39 projecting through an horizontal slot in a sleeve 38 and through an inclined slot 41 in a hub 42 carried by a disc 43. The carrier 29 is thus oscillated to change the warp threads over as the disc 43 moves up and down under control of a drum 11. The carrier 29 is also driven to rotate in time with the needle cylinder. When a cam 14 on the drum 11 comes under a lug 60 of a pivoted lever 58 arms 47, 56 pivoted at 51 are rocked to lift the disc 43. The carrier 29 can also be raised during heel and toe work &c. by a pattern-controlled lever 53. In a modification the disc carrier and its guide eyes always move round in time with the needle cylinder while flat pivoted levers carrying supplementary eyes are projected in and out as required to exchange the wrap threads. The drum 11 carries several sets of cams which operate, through intermediate connections, a series of jack-raising cams. The jacks when raised cause their corresponding needles to take in and knit the wrap stripe threads as described in Specification 300,605, [Class 74 (ii), Knitting &c.]. Specification 20101/09, [Class 74 (ii), Knitting &c.], also is referred to.
