Abstract
367,373. Cigarette-making machines. MOLINS, W. E., 2, Evelyn Street, Deptford, London. Nov. 18, 1930, Nos. 34634 and 35572. [Class 130.] In a machine in which tobacco is delivered to a combing roller and brushed and straightened before it enters the filling trough, a constant level of tobacco is maintained in a hopper 1 by flexible bands 10 which are arranged in grooves on a brushing roller 4 and bear on the tobacco to prevent it from rising above a predetermined level and carry back excess tobacco from a combing roller 3. The bands may be formed of closely wound spiral springs and embrace a guide roller 11 mounted in pivoted links 17 hinged at 18 and carrying counterweights 19, the downward movement of the links being limited by an adjustable stop 20. Alternatively, the guide roller may be given a lateral oscillating movement by a cam to impart a transverse movement to the tobacco mass relatively to the carded rollers. Flexible prongs 12 which remove surplus tobacco are mounted between the bands. The tobacco after being removed from the roller 3 falls on to a distributer 6 and is finally delivered to a filling trough 8.
