Abstract
366,716. Headers for heat exchangers. TRIGGS, W. W., 57, Lincoln's Inn Fields, London.-(Ingersoll-Rand Co. ; 15, Exchange Place, Jersey City, New Jersey, U.S.A.), Feb. 3, 1931, No. 3479. [Class 64 (iii).] Corrosion caused by the accumulation of froth in the upper tubes of horizontal steam condensers is prevented by the provision of baffles in the inlet water box or heater so that the velocity of the water through the box is not greatly different from the velocity at the inlet, whereby the separation of air bubbles is avoided. In a single-inlet water box, the baffles may be of the shape P, Q, Fig. 3; with a double inlet, they are arranged as at H, J. Fig. 2. Preferably the baffles do not extend quite to the tube plate.
