Abstract

Asphalt is made by heating and blowing air through crude aromatic and naphthenic mineral oils containing not more than 2 p per cent of asphaltenes and 10 per cent of paraffins. Bituminous products containing a high proportion of asphaltenes, are made by treating the crude oil with hot air in an autoclave under pressure. Preferably the oil is free from constituents boiling up to 250 DEG C.
