Abstract

In the manufacture of decolourizing carbon, vegetable material is carbonized and mixed with lime, warm water is added to slake the lime and the mass is then added to a sugar solution and the lime is dissolved out.ALSO:White sugar is obtained directly from cane sugar juice by adding monocalcium saccharate to the juice and passing in an acidic gas such as carbon dioxide or sulphur dioxide to precipitate calcium carbonate or calcium sulphite. The remaining liquor is treated with decolourizing carbon. The monocalcium saccharate may be obtained by extracting carbonized vegetable matter containing calcium hydroxide with sugar juice in manufacturing vegetable decolourizing carbon.
