Abstract

<PICT:0363238/IV/1> <PICT:0363238/IV/2> During manufacture, the threads of artificial silk are stretched to a definite and uniform extent by means of a device comprising a rotatable disc f, or lever, carrying a plurality of guides c, d, which disc &c. is brought to a position of rest as by means of an appropriately disposed weight l, into one or other of two positions as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, in one position a free passage is provided for the thread, whereas in the other position, which is the operative one, the thread by reason of the guides is caused to follow a zig-zag path whereby the desired braking action and stretching effect are obtained. An arm i and two stops m, m<1> determine the two positions of the device; the arm and the stop m may be adjustable, and the thread guides c, d may also be adjusted in position on the disc to enable the degree of stretching to be regulated. The disc may be provided with an actuating handle h. After passage through the braking device, the thread is led one or more times round the positively-driven roller e, and is then collected in the spinning pot k.
