Abstract

362,374. Thermionic valves. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd., Columbia House, Aldwych, London.-(Gibson, W. T., and Boulestreau, A. H. ; 46, Avenue de Breteuil, Paris.) Aug. 1, 1930, No. 23219. [Class 39 (i).] One or more electrodes are supported each by a metallic tubular member, one end of which is mounted in the envelope, and the other carries a platform supporting the electrode, the tubular member serving also as a channel for evacuating the valve. As shown, the metal tube 5 has a flared end sealed to a re-entrant part 3 of the envelope, and at the other end has a nickel block 6 carrying three rods 7 on which a helical grid 10 is wound. The tube has holes 11 to facilitate evacuation, and is connected by a tube 14 with a glass tube 15 through which the valve is evacuated. Strips 16 make connection with the tube 14. A screen 20 around the tube 14 spreads the field due to current in the tube. The supports for the cathode filament 30 are secured in a metal block 26 mounted in a metal tube 25 of conical shape, which also acts as a screen for the leads and is provided with an extension 54 which is secured by a ring 56 to a tube 57 sealed to the envelope and protects the envelope from bombardment. The leads to the filament are insulated from the block 26 and connected with threaded parts 43, a nut 42, and flexible conductors 44. An anode 1, provided with screens 59, is spaced by insulators from supporting members 60. The ends of the envelope are protected by metal covers 19, 53 carrying contacts. The electrodes may be of circular or flattened tubular section.
