Abstract
506,519. Discharge apparatus. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Nov. 29, 1937, No. 32929. Convention date, Nov. 30, 1936. [Class 39 (i)] Magnetic effects in the vicinity of the anode arms or protective tubes of multi-anode discharge devices such as mercury vapour rectifiers are neutralized by mounting each anode 32 concentrically within a tubular conductor 33 having an external terminal 34. The anode current passes up the conductor 33 to the anode and then down in the discharge through the grid 35 and protective tube 28. The grid is supported on a tube 27, and the tubes 27, 28, 33 are supported by insulators 29, 30. The tube 33 forms part of the container and the insulators 29 have calking means to make vacuum-tight, seals. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also arrangements in which the anode current is led up to the anode through an external tube or through two or more external leads on opposite sides of the anode, also an arrangement, Fig. 4 (Cancelled), in which the lead 23 to the cathode 22, passes down through the tank 1 whilst the discharge from each anode 18 proceeds up around the anode lead 25 and through the grid 19 and screen 20 having concentric supports ; the are is displaced outwardly for heavy currents to traverse grid holes narrower than those operative at starting. This subjectmatter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
