Abstract
361,970. Fuel-injection pumps. NAPIER & SON, Ltd. and WILKINSON, G. S., 211, Acton Vale, London. Aug. 29, 1930, No. 25798. [Class 102 (i).] In a fuel-injection pump of the type in which the pressure space E is connected to the suction port A<2>, during the earlier part of the injection stroke by a port A<1>, and during the later part by a port B<1>, two plungers C, D are employed having a common pressure space. The cylinders of the plungers may be parallel, or coaxial, as shown. The plunger C controls the port A<1> and the plunger D is formed with a recess D<1> and a passage D<2> which, during the later portion of the stroke, put the pressure space in communication with the port B<1>. The timing of one or both of the plungers may be varied in order to alter the timing of the commencement, or ending, or both, of the injection. For this purpose a cam J may be mounted on its shaft by a quick-action thread J<1>, or an adjustable wedge may be inserted between a cam and its plunger. Alternatively a cam may operate its plunger through a bell-crank lever, the fulcrum of which is carried by an adjustable crank. In another arrangement, Fig. 4, the cam shaft S<2> is driven from a shaft T<1> through skew-gearing T, S<6>, the skew-wheel S<6> being axially adjustable on a splined portion S<5> of the cam shaft.
